Stop-over in Singapore

In April 1999, on the way to Perth, Australia, Klaus and I made a 4 day stop-over in Singapore.
For me, the most striking thing was that Singapore is so unlike the other Asian cities I have visited; It is almost too clean and reminds me more of an American city. They do everything possible to keep the city sterile. One of the questions on the visa application for instance read 'do you bring any chewing gum', as if it was some kind of dangerous drug!
We had some wonderful days in Singapore. We spent a day in the city looking at all the tall buildings and went for a harbour cruise. There is much more to see in Singapore than the city though: We visited a tropical rain forest, went biking on ? Island, did the Night Safari, saw an orchid 'farm' and visited Sentosa Island - Singapore's entertainment park with Underwater World, a butterfly park and a giant copy of the Lion statue.
